About Us - Frank Gaytán

I am a professor of social work and educational leadership at Northeastern Illinois University. I am interested in most things Latino, being a Mexican (which is what we call ourselves in the Midwest, regardless of our birthplace or generation) from the South Side of Chicago.

I've lived and studied in Berkeley, Massachusetts and New York, where I received my Ph.D. in applied developmental psychology from New York University.  I returned to Chicago after ten years away.  I am happy to work at Northeastern as it is a Federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution. Given my interest in Latinos, I chose to teach at this school over a few other opportunities because like Willie Sutton who when asked why he robbed banks, replied, "because that is where the money is," I enjoy being able to make a difference in the lives of young aspirational, first generation, college students-this is where they are.

I hope to share these interests along with other random musings on this blog. Enjoy!
